Boom Buddy mum and daughter - Lisa and Abby - share their review of Stefanie Parks' debut novel, aimed at 8-12 year olds.

Amy is sent to live with her Aunt in the Derbyshire town of Belper at a mysterious house called Meadow Hill Manor.  Although Amy doesn’t seem to care much about anything, let alone the mystery shrouding her new home. That is until something strange yet intriguing starts to invade her dreams…  Can she continue to ignore the eerie noises she hears at night? Or the lights that flicker in the old tower directly above her bedroom?

The Butterflies of Meadow Hill Manor is an effective mixture of fantasy and real-life themes such as grief, but it is suitable for older children and adults alike.

My daughter, aged 8, and I read together as part of her bedtime routine, and we absolutely loved getting cosy on a winter’s evening reading this beautifully moving story. It did, however, take all my willpower not to continue reading the book without her!

The ending, although emotionally satisfying, does leave you wanting more and we really hope a sequel is in the making so we can learn more about the wonderful world created by the talented Stefanie Parks.

I really enjoyed reading the book! I loved how exciting it was.

I learned a lot about butterflies, and I didn’t know they were so interesting.

I loved the book so much and can’t wait to read the next one!

Abby - aged 8
