Transform Lives by Fostering

Written by Foster for East Midlands

Foster for East Midlands represents local authority foster care across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

Fostering with Foster for East Midlands offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in children’s lives, providing them with a safe and nurturing environment when they need it most.

As the foster care team for councils across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham, and Nottinghamshire, Foster for East Midlands is leading a regional effort to recruit more foster carers. This regional hub offers enhanced guidance from experienced social workers, recruitment officers, and foster carers, ensuring you feel supported throughout the process. In addition, specialised training is provided, preparing you to meet the diverse needs of children in care and helping you create a stable environment where they can thrive.

Every child’s situation is unique, and fostering can take many forms. Some children require short-term placements, providing a temporary safe space while their families rebuild. Others need longer-term care, over a more extended period. Regardless of the duration, fostering is a way to profoundly impact a child’s life, giving them hope and a brighter future.

Pat, a foster carer from Derby City, has been fostering for an incredible 36 years. During this time, she’s welcomed numerous children into her home, providing them with love, stability, and a sense of belonging. Many of these children remain in touch with her today, a testament to the lasting bonds formed through fostering. Pat says, “Fostering isn’t just about changing their lives – it changes yours too.” Her story highlights the rewarding nature of fostering and the difference it can make.

Other foster carers, and those they’ve supported, share similarly inspiring experiences.

John, a foster carer, describes the role as both challenging and fulfilling, explaining, “Watching children find stability and thrive makes it all worthwhile.”

April, a former foster child, recalls how her foster family made her feel she belonged and gave her independence, saying, “Even years later, we remain close.” While Chloe, the daughter of foster carers, reflects on the impact fostering had on her family describing how, “Each child leaves lasting impressions, teaching us empathy, compassion, and resilience.”

Foster for East Midlands welcomes people from all walks of life to explore fostering. The most important qualities in a foster carer are dedication and a desire to help children in need. If you’re considering fostering, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
